From our first lesson all students are encouraged to think and engage with their instrument like a musician. I pride myself on being a friendly, fun and passionate teacher who brings this energy to lessons. I encourage all my students to take pride in their achievements, to practice independently and be open to every genre of music. All aspects of musicianship are covered in lessons including, but not limited to, improvising, reading music, playing by ear, using chords charts and even composing. I have had students writing their first songs at the age of 75, as well as 5 year old students performing at their first school showcase. My goal with each student is for them to enjoy and be excited by the amazing journey that is learning an instrument.

Students work with me to construct their own independent repertoire of 6 songs that THEY love and WANT to learn. Pop, jazz, classical, contemporary- no genre is off limits. Alongside this, students are taught basic music theory relative to their instrument, whilst developing their technical abilities. After three months learning their setlist, we record those 6 songs to document progress, before choosing a new repertoire which reflects the students new & improved abilities!

This unique method keeps students progressing, whilst enabling them to be self reflecting, and to take pride in their musical journey. In the cases where students opt to go down a graded route, I teach ABRSM and Trinity syllabus and have a 100% pass rate.

Lessons take place in person at my home Studio in Waterlooville, Hampshire or online via Skype.

Younger students are welcome to come with parents/ guardians as I have a sofa inside the studio which they can make use of.
